Welcome ....
The Friends of Derwent Hill is a new charity run by people
from business and the public sector - bringing their skills together
for free to facilitate the raising of money, and then ensuring that
as much as possible goes towards changing lives and breaking cycles
of deprivation and thus improve the life chances of disadvantaged
children
We achieve this by using the funds to improve access to Derwent Hill
for children that for whatever reason maybe unable to go under
normal circumstances.
Derwent Hill is an outdoor education centre situated in the heart of
the Lake District that enriches the learning of children and young
people, improves their personal and social development and
environmental awareness. This helps them to become successful
learners, confident individuals and responsible citizens.
This has been backed by OFSTED in their report ‘Learning Outside the
Classroom’ This piece of work identifies that:
When planned and implemented well, learning
outside the classroom contributed significantly to raising standards
and improving pupils' personal, social and emotional development'
